Feb 27 Mark Bradford: Exotica at Hauser & Wirth

It can be really dangerous for an artist to be that charming and charismatic — people may be confused what they like the most: the art or the artist. Luckily, Mark Bradford doesn’t need to prove his artistic talent to anyone.
The title of the show refers to the encyclopedia that used terms like “exotic” to describe native plants of certain regions for Western readers. Seeing that as a planting of the idea of “otherness”, the artist contemplates themes of belonging and the concept of displacement.
