Every generation has its memory, every culture has its unique traits.
What so called ‘trend’ has always been a symbol in history to be developed into a cultural characteristic pertaining to a particular era. Trends are constantly changing, and being changed by celebrities and artists who could provoke forms of reformation amongst the public, hence creating a new trend within a culture in that era. Such inconsistency forbit a certain trend to last forever, yet it also left a mark on every generation who’s been through the trends of their era. To people who have experienced their own golden ages, trends serve like a trademark in their heart instead of what was just simply being put in a report or paragraph.
Wilson Shieh and Tse Yim On are two same aged friends who witnessed the development of trends in the golden age of Hong Kong. The topic on how to incorporate Pop Culture reference on traditional medium uses had always been a constant discussion topic amongst themselves. Such discussion continues until even now after they graduated and tread on separate path of development.
TRENDI CLUB: New paintings by Wilson Shieh and Tse Yim On exhibition hosted by Bonhams serves as a reunion for Wilson and On. The similarities they discovered while reviewing each other’s works lead to this collaboration that enables them to demonstrate each, and both of their works.
