Zheng Mahler: What Is It Like to be a (Virtual) Bat? at PHD Group

Zheng Mahler: What Is It Like to be a (Virtual) Bat? at PHD Group

Referring to the Thomas Nagel’s famous paper from 70s the exhibition goes further (deeper? wider? higher?)—how about being a virtual bat? Is it still impossible because of our initial real—and virtual—human nature? Is it possible to recreate the being-a-bat experience fully so it will be convincing to the bats themselves?
What are bats in our cultures anyway? Why does every region have at least some legends and folklore about bats? Why is the range of associations so wide: from witchcraft and ill omen to good fortune and courage, from dangerous to sacred, from vampires to gods’ spirits? Also why am I always ending up asking so many questions every time I write about something philosophical?

Exhibition period: 2.09–11.11
