Exhibition “People quite often...” by Mr. at Perrotin gallery.

I guess I’ll express an unpopular point of view, but I absolutely do not find these paintings kawaii and sweet, but rather sexualized. For me these artworks are too connected to otaku or even to hikikomori phenomena, strongly associated with social inabilities and mental health issues. Glamorizing or in this case cutifying these problems is like using glitter and rhinestones to cover wounds. And for pity’s sake if you have to put “People misunderstand me and the contents of my paintings. They just think they are nostalgic, cute <....>” right in the title of your exhibition, then maybe you are too good in making them cute and not reaching the goal of expressing the dark side of your life experience. Loved the self portrait though.
