Maggie Chu: Setting Stone at Yrellag Gallery

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

Yrellag Gallery is proud to present “Setting Stone”, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist Maggie Chu. The idea of “Setting Stone” originated from the historic stair in Prince’s Terrace, gazing at Central with a century flies. Chu envisions a realm existing simultaneously at different junctures in time, where the familiar shape-shifts into the unfamiliar.

This exhibition comprises photography documentation, along with a series of sculptures forged from the historic stairs of Prince’s Terrace. The moulded sculptures are visible traces of the events that once took place and crafted akin to stone gargoyles. When removed from their original context, they retain the imprints of the Prince’s Terrace steps once adorned, but exist as ethereal entities in a surreal landscape.

Maggie Chu has been an architect for years. Her works akin to unlocking treasure troves. She explores various facets of personal and place identities in contemporary life through the use of diverse media and repurposed found objects.
