Flânerie by Young Soy Gallery at Kong Art Space

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

Young Soy Gallery is proud to present, Flânerie, a celebration of the narratives of our beloved city through the eyes of five recent and prospective graduates from Hong Kong. Elegantly dressed office-dwellers darting through the rain, domestic workers waiting patiently outside a school to pick up children, water drops from the air-conditioners above…These seemingly mundane scenes are what form the unique portrait of Hong Kong. Such details can only be observed through the act of Flânerie, meaning to aimlessly and idly observing the intricacies of the everyday happenings on the streets.

Embodying this practice, Angelique Santos, Celine Lam, Jerome Leung, Lewis Lee, and Max Lee depict their observed social landscapes, memories, and the dwellers of Hong Kong. Their works act as vehicles for introspection and social commentary, touching upon themes of family history, social dichotomies, public space, and melancholy.
