They are quite paradoxical and tricky, aren’t they? Dark but not grim, unsettling but not eerie. Giving you just enough details so you won’t feel confused and tricking you with enough realism so you can miss the surreal part.
Showing the lasting moment—real or imagined—and giving you no explanations of what that moment is comprised of. Marvelous paintings.
