Tsuyoshi Maekawa, Wang Yi, Soonik Kwon: De/construct at Whitestone Gallery
Formally all three are abstract artists, but where Tsuyoshi Maekawa is focusing on the process and expression—as it’s supposed to be following Gutai manifesto—Korean artist Soonik Kwon is devoting himself to an exploration of material. Chinese artist Wang Yi on the other hand seems to be even less abstract with the notion of symbolism and visual language. So abstract art—surprise-surprise!—varies widely in terms of its why’s and how’s. Just like any type of art duh.
