Reina Sugihara: Respirare at Empty Gallery
Imagine yourself walking through the system of caves, discovering the beautiful, almost painterly surfaces of sedimentary rocks and magnificent rocks (obviously lit by a torch in your hand), being almost lost but still discovering new and new wonders right behind the corner. Earthly tones, spots of rust, swirls of agate, streaks of cold lava, fragments of fossils.
Or imagine yourself exploring the ancient abandoned temple, buried beneath the layers of dust and time (still gripping a torch). Symbols and barely recognizable images, sacred writings, something primordial and very prehistoric.
Or try imagining yourself in a dark library, leafing through mysterious medical books or alchemical scrolls (probably now you have a candle or a dim lantern, just for safety and convenience). Mystical scribbles, dusty pages, crumbling paper, kunstkammer-like illustrations.
And now find yourself looking at the exhibition in an art gallery (use your torch at the staircase).
Exhibition period: 8.12–1.03
Gallery address: 19/F, Grand Marine Center, Aberdeen
