Jeong Myoung-Jo: The Paradox of Beauty at Soluna Gallery

Unseen, depersonalized and lacking direct power, standing with their backs to us, and only their regalia and ornate clothes can help us to identify their roles and status. Queens and performers, wives and artists, court ladies and concubines—they still had influence, even with their rights and activities greatly restricted. Their beauty—flowerlike face, moonlike figure—is hidden from us, their identities and personalities are unknown but it takes a lot of courage to stare in the dark empty void and maybe, just maybe it is us who is hiding right behind their backs.
