Exhibition “Art Me” by Michael Kvium at Tang Contemporary.
Humanity has a long ambiguous history of relation with ugly, repulsive and murky. We tend to avoid discomfortable themes and images, but also are somehow attracted to them, seeing them either as guilty pleasure or a forbidden fruit. These artworks are an ongoing exploration of the grotesque reality, theatrical ugliness and revolting attractiveness. I find this exhibition to be a perfect illustration to the “disturbing the comfortable” goal of the contemporary art.
Exhibition period: 29.09 — 17.11.18
