Ceramic solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist Yung Chun Kit.
The dust lingering in the air often remains unseen until it is bathed in the sunlight streaming through a window or settles upon a surface.
“The Dust Settles” emerges as the first solo exhibition of ceramic artist Ivan Yung. Yung infuses the dirt collected from daily clean-up into his ceramic practice. The cellular tissues of living beings, minerals from the soil, particles of pollution drifting in from outside, and debris hidden in the corners are collected and fused together through firing, bringing an end to their circulation within the environment. Yung becomes not only the maker who provides vessels for dirt and dust but also an observer who witnesses their transformation.
In “The Dust Settles,” Yung’s thoughts revolve around his dwelling place. Through the handling of ceramic objects, he explores the process of documenting and observing the traces left by the interaction between clay and the environment.
