Gallery Ascend, a premier Hong Kong art gallery known for its ongoing effort to showcase some of the most prolific contemporary artists from around the globe, is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of “Portrait of You”, an exhibition featuring the work of Yosuke Ueno.
The exhibition is set to open on November 26th. During the showcase Ueno provides various character presentations based on the artist’s unique interpretations. Japanese culture such as Manga and anime characters is one of the biggest inspirations of Ueno. The works featured in his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong also reflect Ueno’s Western stylings, along with Japanese Ukiyo-e and fresh takes on classic masterworks from Picasso and Velazquez.
Ueno uses those distinct influences to create character figures that highlight many of the traits that define individuals and cultures, especially in a Japanese context, where spiritual meaning is frequently assigned to everyday objects. He says from the beginning of time, Japanese people have found solace in assigning human traits to nature and recorded those concepts in images that continues today to help society feel more connected.
