Yoichi Ochiai: Transformation of Material Things at Experimental Gallery

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

As a media artist, I am exploring themes such as transformation, materialization, oriental landscape beauty and philosophy, using media devices such as photography and computers. I believe that the fundamental idea that flows through my work is the Kegon philosophy, a common Asian way of thinking that started in China and matured in Japan via the Korean Peninsula.

The field of media art that I am involved in is an artistic field that considers how to represent the media device itself and what can be seen from the media device through some kind of invention or reinvention of the wheel. In this context, I believe that media art as " Art in Nature in a Post-Industrial Society" will be a theme in the future. The production of media devices as hardware was originally a field in which Japan had a strong presence in Asia, but now the production area is shifting to China, Korea and the rest of Asia. From this perspective, I believe that the ideology of media art, which skillfully manipulates media, flows within the context of Asia. From this perspective, I would like to convey this new art form derived from Asia to people in various countries.
