AISHONANZUKA is please to announce our new group exhibition “Transformation”, showing works by Imon_boy, Julio Anaya Cabanding, Katelyn Ledford, and Vanessa Morata. The exhibition will be on view from 25 November to 23 December, 2022.
Imon_boy
Born in Malaga, Spain, 1991.
Imon Boy has been practicing graffiti writing in the streets, transforming ordinary street view into the canvas of his diary. His works alternated from stylized lettering into graffiti related painting and drawings. His creations are inspired by the everyday experience and elements that accompanied his whole life: graffiti, video games, internet culture, movies, music and more. Imon Boy depicts every small or big challenges we encountered in daily life with a generous pinch of humor.
Julio Anaya Cabanding
Born in Malaga, Spain, 1987. Currently living and working in Spain.
Julio Anaya Cabanding is a graduate of Fine Arts from the Univeristy of Malaga, 2018. His art reinterprets the works of the great classical masters by painting on discarded and deteriorated cardboard, collected from abandoned places and rehabilitated in his studio in order to give them a new identity in a different context. The contrast of this results in the decontextualization of those rigid structures established within the art world. In successfully painting Great works on discarded cardboard, Julio calls into question what it is that we truly value in art.
Katelyn Ledford
Born in American South. Currently living and working in Boston, Massachusetts.
Katelyn Ledford received her MFA in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. Ledford’s works always reflects the complicated and often painful reality of what it means to be a woman and artist. She uses appropriated images sourced from historical paintings, television shows, social media, and Google fever dreams while contrasting them against improvisational symbols and shapes in order to create deconstructed portraits. The tone across her work lies in a mix of cynicism, humor, and absurdist logic― like the feeling of sucking on a sour candy, you smile through the pain and pleasure.
Vanessa Morata
Born in Malaga, Spain,1992. Currently based in Spain.
Vanessa Morata is a visual artist graduated from the Fine Arts of Malaga. She is alerted of the social issue raised from over population and abusive consumption, and attempted to criticize these problems in a cryptic aspect, hiding her message under the seemingly friendly aesthetic. Morata uses a wide range of popular cultural reference, introducing iconic characters from cartoons to contemporary art which are staged in complex interiors. Her works are visually and ideologically a puzzle waiting for the audiences to solve.
