The Secret Cabinet at The Stroll Gallery

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

The Stroll Gallery proudly presents the largest Korean contemporary art exhibition in Hong Kong, The Secret Cabinet, introducing a group of nine young and treasure-like artists. Showcasing around 30 pieces of artwork in this two-month exhibition, the exhibition represents a large collection of secret cabinet spaces, where artists tell their short stories through art in each of them. The Stroll Gallery, the exhibition space where all cabinet spaces are gathered, thus depicts The Secret Cabinet.

The values and sensibilities observed and perceived by young Korean contemporary artists, Ahra Kim, Chansong Kim, Doyu Hwang, Lee Na, Jieun Kim, Jiyeon Kim, Juhyun Kim, Yeonhong Kim, and Yunzo Paek, assemble various narratives in their lives while shedding light on ours.

The valuables in the artists’ cabinets are not just merely materialistic consumer goods, but long-lasting stories of “Values”: a memory of a particular day, a resemblance of an experience, or the mind and breath of the artist. The cabinet holds more than just the artists’ personal records; as each cabinet door opens, it welcomes interaction with the eyes and hands of the audience. Feel the artist’s nostalgia for a faded past, a significant relationship, childhood innocence, fear and curiosity for the future, and the beauty of a single moment. Look into each artist’s cabinet as if you are looking into your innermost self.
