Contemporary Crafts Centre is excited to announce that Colours of Akita, the first glass art exhibition of Shun Kumagai.

Shun Kumagai is a glass artist based in Akita, Japan. Each piece is created by pouring molten glass into a handmade wax mould. Grains of sand and metal powders are then melted into the glass which creates unique colours and unexpected finishes. Shun Kumagai tries to create textures through applying different materials in his works. After a glass piece is completed, the appearance of the soil and metal is influenced by how light falls on the object. So, changes occur each moment in a day.
