Sam Wong’s first solo photography exhibition in a 40-year career. Co-Curated By Ben Liu & Kary Kwok and Co-Produced By Chow Kar H00 & Carl Tsang. “It’s About Time” is the maiden revelation of Sam’s eclectic repertoire of advertisements, record covers, movie posters and magazine content immortalising the singers and actors of Hong Kong’s golden era of Cantopop spanning the 1980’s and ‘90s.
In 1980, Sam went to California in the US to train in commercial photography at the well-known Art Center College of Design, assisting renowned photographers Matthew Rolston and Veronica Sim.
Returning home in 1984, Sam opened his own studio. His first album cover shoot was of Deanie Ip’s “A Thousand Suns”. It won the “Best Album Cover of the Year” award. He subsequently worked with a galaxy of superstars such as Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui, Danny Chan, Ekin Cheng, Eason Chan and many more.
Venue address: HKDI Room C003
I write about every exhibition I went to, and I go to almost every exhibition there is in Hong Kong. I shoot and edit my own photos for this blog.
I enjoy visiting artists and seeing their studios. I show them the way I see them, hopefully revealing something interesting.
I’m a proudly independent art blogger with no affiliation to any organisation. I blog because I love art and support the artists.
