Hongkong Land is committed to bringing art to the wider public of Hong Kong through supporting local artists to showcase their talent and encouraging positive, creative mindsets among audience. From 31st October, Hongkong Land will host On My Own Terms — Self- Taught Artists, a show involving five artists who do not have any formal training. They are passionate individuals who have bravely embarked on the journey to pursue art; developing their signature style and showcasing their unique creations on their own terms. The exhibition aims to push the boundaries of established norms in the art world and to inspire the audience to pursue their own artistic aspirations.
On My Own Terms — Self-Taught Artists features 30 works spanning across photography, painting, sculpture, moving images and installations. Filipino documentary photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani depicts the subtle moments that show daily life in Wanchai in her photographs; street photographer KC Kwan takes the audience on a journey through the “dark side” of the hustle-and-bustle in Kowloon as seen through his lens; upcycling artist Cheng Sheng uses found objects and professional art materials in his paintings and sculptures; pioneering Hong Kong video artist Ellen Pau discusses the materialisation of the electronic image through her video work; and bamboo sculptor Louis To Wun reinterprets classical Chinese and Western art techniques to create contemporary paintings and bamboo sculptures of monumental scale. The show will run from 31st October to 12th November 2022 at The Rotunda, Exchange Square, in Central, and all visitors will enjoy free admission.
