Local ceramicist Leo Wong presents the ceramic exhibition Leo Wong Ceramic Exhibition – Japanese Aesthetics on French Art. Ukiyo-e was introduced to France in the 19th century, influencing European art, especially Impressionism as well as contemporary design. In addition to explaining the history of Japonisme and the interesting facts about its inspiration for the world of modern design such as tea sets by Hermès, silver and cloisonné centrepieces by Boucheron, and embellishments by the trunk maker Louis Vuitton etc., Leo will highlight how Japanese and French art and culture are intertwined by showcasing his floral ceramic sculptures inspired by Ukiyo-e.
Leo will also organise a ceramic workshop to share his pottery techniques, allowing the public to experience hand building pottery and create their own ceramic sculpture of Lily of the Valley, the symbol of happiness in France. The ceramic workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
