Kate Siu: Gleaning at The Pottery Workshop

  • Hong Kong Hong Kong (map)

“There’s nothing worth getting in this world that you can get easily... But, when you put in that much time and effort, if you do achieve that difficult thing it becomes the cream of your life.” (Haruki Murakami, Cream)

I like to use different materials as media to explore the lifeline between myself and Hong Kong - the place where I belong. I believe that we are of the same vein and indivisible.

Observing daily life of the city from a near microscopic distance, I ventured into the streets to pick up objects full of the traces of time and historical imprints. These are then combined with clay through a time-consuming methodology of repetitive manipulation, addition, and firing techniques. These processes act to record my turbulent experience and thoughts in Hong Kong over the past two years.
