Hidden Space is delighted to present Saturation, a solo exhibition by Fong Tsz Ho, the seventh recipient of our annual Hidden Space Award.

A pulsing soundscape of escalating tension. A narrow antechamber uncomfortably filled with mismatched seating. Beyond it, in a material shift from red painted walls into red light, piles of furniture temporarily arranged and rearranged into structures that might resemble barricades or sprawling nests.

Fong has created an experimental arena for combining sound, colour, making and unmaking. Over the course of the exhibition, he utilises chairs, stools, tables, ladders, and items as varied as rocks and a metronome, as interlocking puzzle pieces. In reshaping the environment, both in response to and defiance of the relentlessly discomforting sound, there is the maintenance of agency and balance in the face of alienation. In a moment of crisis where solace can feel elusive, there is resistance and refuge in the crevices.
