Art Projects Gallery is delighted to present Hong Kong artist Emily Hung’s Solo Exhibition “Lonely Stardust”.
Artist’s Statement
Ever since I was little, I have discovered that I see the world differently. The air is filled with tiny dust particles, floating around, and guiding me through the contours of an object. I trace the lines over and over again within my mind.
Through engraving in a repetitive manner, copperplate etching is a process that I find somewhat self-abusive. Nevertheless, I enjoy bringing the lines from my mind to reality with my own hands. And to feel the texture of the lines by gently touching the plate.
The perfect pitch black on the copper plates have always brought me a bit of romance, mixed with sorrow, into the void of my lonely heart.
Every time when the prints go through the printing press, I watch the ink appear on the paper. In that instance, I imagine myself turning into stardust, silent and patient. Following the creation of the work, I drift down and land in front of the audience.
