Eddie Kang: Marching Toward The Light at Lucie Chang Fine Arts

  • 65 Wong Chuk Hang Road Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong Island Hong Kong SAR China (map)

Lucie Chang Fine Arts is happy to announce new solo exhibition by a Korean artist Eddie Kang.
Eddie Kang is an animamix artist that creates fictional space drawn from his memories and imaginations. Through symbolic icons, Kang reveals his perspective on urban society and expresses the lonesome emotions people feel amid busy crowds. Kang has a pessimistic outlook on the city life, but seeks to find positive meaning behind them. Preoccupied by technology and racing to get ahead in the capitalist economy, people are prone to lose their identities in the systematized modern culture. Kang’s robots are symbolic of the negative sides of a city. He sees tall skyscrapers as monsters and often pictures large buildings as robots whose entrances are mouths that swallow people. Through the negativities he sees in urban society, Kang expresses the positive notions that can be found behind them. Kang’s handmade doll attached on the canvas surface is a lonely bear aloof from the crowded chaos beneath, but it is also a true reflection of our hearts and life process. Pets and “happy cells” are other icons in his paintings that symbolize hope.
