SHOUT Contemporary is pleased to announce the exhibition Lost and Found, a solo exhibition by Desmond Lo featuring local neon artist Jive Lau.
The global pandemic has made an impact on all generations of our time. It has brought many of us to re-value our relationship with the city and people around us.
Inspired by the event, 3D artist Desmond Lo created a body of work which is a hyperreality picture journal Desmond made with computer graphics for his imaginary journey in solitude he took over the past two years during the pandemic. With a strong cyberpunk sensitivity, the majority of the images are built on images he took from photos of Hong Kong’s iconic visual elements and among them neon street signs play a major part of them. “COMPRESSION 2.0.”, and “ANIMAL CROSSING.” depict streets at night with neon signs flickering light with saturated hues hanging on top of each other fighting for attention in a deserted street. Together with “CHOI HUNG WALLED CITY.” and” HORIZON.” these eerie cityscapes with buildings glowing from within and outside showing traces of lives but only accentuate the sense of isolation and alienation.
