Step into the second year of BMW MONAT, presented by BMW Hong Kong in a brand-new form as ‘The Art of Contour’. This year’s programme will include an inaugural collaboration with K11 Art Foundation (KAF) at the BMW Luxury Class Showroom, with the theme ‘TAKING SHAPE: LINE, CURVE, LIGHT’ curated by KAF, showcasing artworks by four contemporary artists – Neïl Beloufa, Zhang Enli, Lui Chun Kwong and Keiichi Tanaami. The artists have been carefully selected by KAF to complement the silhouettes of BMW’s luxury flagship series – THE 7, THE X7 and THE 8, highlighting the aesthetic of ‘contour’ through creativity, ideas and craftsmanship.
Contemporary artworks curated by K11 Art Foundation
The showcase curated by KAF will feature artworks by four contemporary artists. The first is two sculptures by French-Algerian artist Neïl Beloufa from his Rationalized Objects (2016) series, where the artist utilises steel wire to shape recognisable forms, creating mundane gestures that comment on the contemporary system of high value and culture. The second is a screen print by artist Zhang Enli, Line (2018), drawing influence from traditional Chinese brush techniques, underpinned by a hand-drawn structure similar to the geometric patterns and contours on a map. The third is a painting by Hong Kong-based artist Lui Chun Kwong, Landscape No, AB00233 (2015), one of the artist’s largest works to date, which is part of a series exploring how the elemental forces of nature can be captured through abstract configurations of line, shape, and colour on canvas. The fourth is a sculpture, The House In Ascension (1986), by Tokyo-born artist Keiichi Tanaami, which is part of a series of works made at a time when Tanaami discovered the work of Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí.
