ArtèThing at PMQ proudly presents “Bloomsy, Bloomsy things.” the first solo exhibition by local artist Yau Wing Leung Thomas. The exhibition scoops into Yau’s deep reflections on intimate relationships, sex, and love. From September 23rd to October 8th, 2023, visitors will be challenged to reflect upon their own experiences, contemplating the delicate balance between desire and emotional connection.
“Bloomsy, Bloomsy things” serves as a metaphorical journey through the intricacies of human connections. Yau believes that individuals often express themselves in a subtle and indirect manner. Drawing inspiration from the natural world, Yau substitutes himself with flowers, meticulously imitating the interactions and exchanges that transpire between individuals, thereby forging a deep and profound connection.
Within the exhibition, Yau eloquently unveils his inner desires through the medium of cyanotype and roses. The symbolism of True-love roses embodies the essence of natural love and sexual desire, while the presence of pink roses represents the vitality and sensuality of life itself. Cyanotype, acting as a mesmerizing “lie detector,” seamlessly merges reality and illusion by manipulating light and time, resulting in a unique and captivating aesthetic experience.
Along his artistic journey, Yau poses thought-provoking questions, pondering the nature of love and the quest for affection. He delves into the depths of his being, contemplating whether he pursues fleeting pleasures or seeks a profound spiritual connection. In a world where love and desire often lack clear directionality, individuals engage in relationships without providing meaningful feedback, leaving two souls trapped within a silent echo chamber, cloaked in ambiguity.
