arthome proudly announce French May associated project Birdy Chu Photo Exhibition “HK 1997”

In 1841, Britain took over Hong Kong, and started 156 years of colonial governance.
1997 was the year of Handover, a critical historic moment for Hong Kong, China and Britain.
As a Hong Kong photographer, Birdy Chu decided to make a documentation project about this historic year. And I started this project on the first hour of 1997, capturing all sorts of unforgettable moments through the year, before and after the handover. Now it has been a quarter of a century, Hong Kong has rapidly changed. 2022 is the 25th anniversaries of the Handover, which is a very important year for Hong Kong and China. It is the right time to look back at the year 1997, rethink and review some old memories, sceneries of that unique transition throughout world history.

This photography project witnessed the transformation of our city, landscape, social development and also people’s feelings.
