Anonymous Society for Magick at Blindspot Gallery

“Anonymous Society for Magick” is a mixed-media exhibition with work by five visual artists. While magic alludes to illusion, fantasy, and mind tricks, inspiring us about something that could not possibly have happened. Early nineteenth century occultist and ceremonial magician Aleister Crowley first used the word magick, to differentiate his practices and rituals from stage magic. Magick, in Crowley’s definition, is the ‘Science of understanding oneself and one’s conditions,’ ‘the Art of applying that understanding in action’, which equally applies to artist’s own artistic practice. Against such multi-layered context, the exhibition intertwines the seemingly dreamlike reality with social critique, summoning amazement whilst simultaneously revealing the hidden truth within our surroundings.
