Pipilotti Rist: Behind Your Eyelids at Tai Kwun Contemporary
Just a reminder to visit it once again before it’s gone (I hope at this point everyone have seen it at least once!). True feast to your eyes, brain and—let’s be brutally honest—your Instagram. The combination of playfulness and seriousness, the ability to not only tell you a story but also to invite you to join the storytelling, to participate, to be engaged is what astounded. I’ve heard (and was a bit annoyed to be honest) some comparisons with TeamLab works, but with all respect to what TeamLab is doing—Pipilotti’s work is much more complex and multifaceted, enriched with layers of meanings topped with your own associations. So wander inside the Pixel Forest, sit on a gigantic sofa (someone wrote that it evoked the memories of being a kid who stayed up later than it was allowed and watched stuff that you shouldn’t be watching; can’t remember who posted it) and search for hidden treasures in The Living Room. Have fun with discovering more art outside of the JC and don’t miss gorgeous projections at the Prison Yard from 7 pm.
(And yes, that one video by Beyonce smashing car windows is directly inspired by the video work ‘Ever is Over All’)
Exhibition period: 3 August—27 November
Gallery address: Tai Kwun Contemporary, Central
