Unsold ≠ Worthless, Shifting Perspectives at de Sarthe Gallery

Unsold ≠ Worthless, Shifting Perspectives at de Sarthe Gallery

Art has been seen as a trendy thing for a long time. Artists would rise to fame, sometimes fall from it, become fashionable, or eventually lose their popularity. This cycle was a very human and organic process before the art market's development. Nowadays art is treated as a hot asset or a successful investment, a commodity that should be bought immediately as soon as it is produced and sold when the market rises. In this context, unsold work is seen as failed, worthless. However, this profit-driven logic is not only unsustainable but also heartless, since the value of art has never been about the profit made by reselling it. Visit the exhibition to see the selection of unsold works and decide for yourself what the value of art is.
