Exhibition “Kapok20” by Halley Cheng at Galerie Ora-Ora

Kapok trees may be seen as a Hong Kong symbol, along with Bauhinia blakeana, but most often are noticed when their lush flowers are squelched into a red mush under your feet (often with prepaid sim-cards that are widely used by domestic helpers here; do you see them on the canvases?). Referring to last year, the title of the exhibition evokes feelings of disconnect and cutoff, loss and loneliness.
