Katsumi Nakai: Hiraku—Opening Up To Freedom at Novalis Art Design

Katsumi Nakai: Hiraku—Opening Up To Freedom at Novalis Art Design

Born in Osaka and lived in Italy—that’s an interesting combination of countries and cultures, isn’t that? You can try to see visual and philosophical influences from both of these countries and I am sure you’ll find them. Just keep in mind that mostly these openable and swingable artworks are the product of artist’s personality and life experiences and none of them were made with a specific culture in mind.
Personally I immediately thought of traditional Eastern European windows shutters, rustic and ornamental, which definitely wasn’t artist’s intention.
