Jessica Rankin: Sky Sound at White Cube

This one is poetic in a very literal way since a lot of starting points for this body of works were found in poetry, particularly, of the artist’s mother, Jennifer Rankin. Stitches of the embroidery and strokes of the brush are structurally different but equally important in building tension and balancing the empty space, which inevitably reminds me of traditional Chinese ink printings. And since these artworks can be seen as exploratory abstracted landscape — or the dreamspaces of memories — this resemblance is not too far-fetched.
