Have you looked at some of the surreal paintings—say, de Chirico—after the beginning of pandemic? After the experience of lockdowns those empty city scenes don’t look eerie anymore, but rather bring the immediate sense of sad recognition. These paintings of the empty playgrounds with a tad absurd slides and no kids enjoying them evoked those feelings.
Also they look like small trompe l'oeil cabinets of curiosities filled with distilled childhood memories, that are more constructs than real scenes.
