Al Taylor at David Zwirner
Immediately fell in love with these works because of their simple playfulness that doesn’t seem to be planned but more like a certain consequence of the unconstrained flow of creation.
The elegance of the works seemed a bit akin to Motherwell’s paintings and that distracted me for some time from noticing the rhyme and rhythm of flat shapes and three-dimensional lines. Later, reading some interviews with the artist I figured out that he insisted that these structures were indeed paintings in the most broad term.
(Also I find them incredibly cozy and nostalgic; brought back times when I was messing around with scraps and pieces while my dad was building or repairing something around the house.)
